Varsity Softball Team Opens Season with Thrilling 5-4 Walk-Off Victory over Sandwich High School

Swansea, MA – The Varsity Softball team kicked off their season in electrifying fashion today, securing a thrilling 5-4 victory against Sandwich High School at the Swansea YMCA Monday evening. The game showcased resilience, strategy, and standout performances as Diman celebrated a walk-off win in their season opener.

Diman struck first in the bottom of the second inning, with Paisley Parisee crossing home plate after a successful sacrifice bunt from Sophia Meleo, giving the Bengals an early 1-0 lead. However, Sandwich responded in the top of the fourth, edging ahead with two earned runs to take a 2-1 lead.

The back-and-forth battle continued as Diman evened the score in the fifth inning with a crucial pass ball that allowed Martinez to score.  But Sandwich fought back, adding two more runs in the seventh inning with a hit by pitch and two consecutive hits, taking a 4-2 lead as the game drew to a close.

With their backs against the wall, Diman refused to back down. In a dramatic finish, the Bengals loaded the bases with walks issued to Mello, Lavoie (pinch running for Pineault), and Fernandes. Parisee, demonstrating her clutch performance under pressure, delivered a walk-off single with two outs, bringing Mello across the plate to secure the win at 5-4.
